The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Valery Markelov, the co-founder of the 1520 group of companies (GC) 1520, until December 1. He is suspected of transferring bribes to the notorious colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko for his protection and assistance in matters of security. Investigators do not exclude that part of the billions withdrawn in the framework of the Zakharchenko case could have been related to Mr. Markelov. Meanwhile, in the Civil Code today conducted investigative actions.
Today in the Civil Code 1520 conducted investigative activities. In the group of companies themselves, “Kommersant” refused to comment on the situation. Meanwhile, it became known that one of the co-founders of the Civil Code, which is the largest contractor of Russian Railways and operating practically throughout Russia (in the Forbes rating, she won in the Kings of the state order category), Valery Markelov was detained the day before in Moscow. Today, the Basmanny Court of the capital arrested him for two months - until December 1. Mr Markelov, as explained in court, is charged with Part 5 of Art. 291 of the Criminal Code (bribery on a large scale).
The court will also consider a similar petition against lawyer Viktor Belevtsev, who is charged with mediating in giving a particularly large bribe.
According to preliminary data, Valery Markelov for a long time transferred bribes to the then deputy head of the GUEBiPK Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Zakharchenko. In return, the colonel provided Mr Markelov’s companies with general patronage, and also assisted in matters of security, using his official capabilities and powers.
According to the investigation, in the period from 2007 to 2016, Markelov and three of his accomplices gave bribes for the overall protection of Dmitry Zakharchenko. The total amount of bribes was more than 2 billion rubles. The illegal remuneration was transferred monthly at $ 150 thousand. As a rule, money was transferred in cash, and the method of their transfer was determined by Colonel Zakharchenko.
The protection of Dmitry Zakharchenko today told “Kommersant” that she was not aware of either the arrest of Valery Markelov or the suspicion of the investigating authorities in his address. “In the case of Dmitry Zakharchenko there are no episodes where Markelov would appear,” said one of the lawyers.
Investigators do not exclude that part of the money that was seized during searches in the framework of Colonel Zakharchenko’s case (then, we recall, about 9 billion rubles were seized at different addresses in different currencies) may be related to Mr. Markelov.
