Rosoboronexport sold weapons on a record 19 billion dollars

The largest contract in the history of the company for the supply of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to India was concluded.
Since the beginning of the year, Rosoboronexport has signed about 1,100 contract documents in the amount of $ 19 billion, which is a record figure in the entire history of the company. This is with reference to Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev, said in a press release on Thursday devoted to the 18th anniversary of the signing of the presidential decree on the creation of a state intermediary for the export and import of weapons. For the entire last year, according to the company, the volume of newly signed contracts amounted to $ 15 billion.

Mikheev recalled that in 2018 the largest contract in the company's entire history was signed for the supply of anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 to India. “For 18 years, Rosoboronexport has become one of the world leaders in the supply of weapons and military equipment and has reached record levels. Today, Russia confidently holds the second place in the world in terms of military-technical cooperation. The order book of Rosoboronexport exceeds $ 50 billion, and the total volume of deliveries for all years exceeded $ 150 billion, ”quoted a press release from the general director of the Rostec state corporation, Sergey Chemezov (which includes Rosoboronexport).

$ 50 billion

So much is currently the total order book of Rosoboronexport. In this case, the share of the state-owned company, according to the statement of its leadership, accounts for 85% of all deliveries of Russian weapons abroad. The rest of the exports are provided by individual companies that have licenses for the supply of spare parts and services, including, in particular, UAC, USC, Russian Helicopters and a number of other

These records were set after in April of this year sanctions were imposed against Rosoboronexport in accordance with the American anti-Russian sanctions law CAATSA, which led, among other things, to stopping payments from India on previously concluded contracts. The largest of them was a contract worth $ 5.43 billion for the supply of five C-400 regiments (two divisions in each), and, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov, the agreement involves payment in rubles. In addition, on Monday the Indian newspaper The Economic Times reported, and a person close to Rosoboronexport confirmed to Vedomosti that last week a construction contract was signed at the Kaliningrad plant Yantar for the Indian Navy for two frigates of the project 11356 worth $ 950 million. Earlier in January, Indonesia announced it had signed a contract with Russia for the supply of 11 Su-35 fighters in the amount of $ 1.15 billion.

Thus, a total of about 40% of the announced $ 19 billion worth of contracts is known. The remaining major contracts were not disclosed, including because of the sanctions, but they are, says a person close to Rosoboronexport. According to the expert of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies Konstantin Makienko, those contracts that are known have been prepared for a long time: for example, the contract for the C-400 with India has been in place since 2012. Nevertheless, these record figures were achieved in an unprecedented situation history of domestic arms exports sanctions pressure. And this means that even in such a situation, success is possible, provided that all political, financial and other possible levers available to the state are activated, the expert says.
